Exploring the Arc's Bio-diversity
In 2004 The Sanctuary began anchoring the vision of an Arc of Appalachia Wilderness Sanctuary by establishing itself in selected botanical and zoological hotspots along the ninety-mile crescent on the western front of the Appalachian foothills. The Sanctuary has founded four preserve regions to date: the Highlands of the Rocky Fork Gorge, Bacon Flats on Scioto Brush Creek, the prairie lands of Adams County, and Sandy Springs on the Ohio River. Our focus in the coming months will be on raising the necessary funds to complete the purchase of several new acquisitions on the Arc. The Arc lies in a five-county region in Ohio: Highland, Adams, Ross, Pike, and Scioto. Although we are restricted to working in Ohio at present, someday we hope to follow the Arc across the Ohio River into Kentucky. We look forward to the day w
hen the land-of-the-beautiful-river is re-united
with the land-of-cane.
